ROOFING CONTRACTOR ยท HACKENSACK, NJ 07601

Roofing Contractor in Hackensack, NJ

Shingle roofs on Hackensackโ€™s older homes, flat roofs on its two-families, apartment buildings and Main Street storefronts, and the repairs in between, from a GAF Certified crew based ten minutes east in Englewood.

Hackensack has every kind of roof, and we work on all of them

Hackensack is the county seat and the most varied roofing town in Bergen County. In one afternoon we can be on a 1920s colonial in the Fairmount section, a flat-roofed two-family off Main Street, a mid-rise apartment building near the hospital, and a retail block along Hackensack Avenue or Route 4. The housing stock is older than most of the county, a lot of it has been re-roofed more than once, and a large share of it is flat or low-slope: modified bitumen and built-up roofing on the older buildings, EPDM and TPO on the newer ones.

Top Roof LLC is a GAF Certified contractor with a New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor registration, full insurance and 115 five-star Google reviews. We replace and repair shingle roofs, install and repair flat roofing systems, rebuild and re-flash chimneys, and install gutters. Estimates are free and on site, and you get a written, itemized proposal with photos of your actual roof before any work starts.

RECENT HACKENSACK PROJECT

A commercial roof drain repair in Hackensack, February 2026

A commercial building in Hackensack had a roof drain that had been patched over more than once. The membrane had pulled away from the drain flange and water was getting under the modified bitumen roof instead of into the pipe, staining the ceiling below every time it rained or snow melted.

In the middle of February we cut out the failed drain and the built-up patches, checked the deck and drain bowl, set a new drain flange and clamping ring, torched in a new modified bitumen base and cap sheet around the sump, and installed a new strainer dome. The leak was solved for a fraction of the cost of a new roof, and the building got years more life out of the existing system.

HACKENSACK ROOFS, SPECIFICALLY

What we see on Hackensack roofs

  • Multiple layers. A lot of Hackensackโ€™s older homes were re-roofed over the existing shingles once or twice. Two or three layers hide rotted decking and add weight. On these homes we tear off to the deck rather than adding a fourth layer.
  • Flat roofs on two-families and small apartment buildings. Modified bitumen and built-up roofs from the 1980s and 90s, often patched with roof cement at the drains and seams. The Hackensack drain repair on this page is typical of what we find.
  • Ponding water. Older flat roofs settle, and water sits where it should drain. We correct drainage with tapered insulation and new drains or scuppers when we replace a roof, instead of just laying new membrane over a low spot.
  • Commercial corridors. Main Street, Hackensack Avenue, River Street and the blocks around the hospital carry storefronts, medical offices and mixed-use buildings with tenants below. We schedule around business hours and keep the work area contained.
  • Storm and wind damage. The cityโ€™s dense blocks funnel wind between buildings. Lifted ridge caps and torn membrane at parapets are common after a norโ€™easter, and we document the damage with dated photos for insurance claims.

HOW IT WORKS

From first call to finished roof

1

Book or call

Pick a time online or call 201-989-0999. Active leaks on occupied buildings go to the front of the schedule.

2

Roof inspection with photos

We walk the roof, check drains, seams and flashing, and photograph everything so you and your tenants see what we found.

3

Written, itemized proposal

Scope, materials and a fixed price. On flat roofs we price the repair and the replacement separately when both are options, so you can compare.

4

Repair, clean up, photos

Most repairs are finished in one visit. Replacements are scheduled around tenants and business hours, and you get photos of the finished work.

HACKENSACK QUESTIONS

Roofing in Hackensack: frequently asked questions

Yes, flat and low-slope roofs are a large share of our Hackensack work: modified bitumen, EPDM and TPO on two-family homes, apartment buildings, offices and storefronts. The drain repair on this page is one example. We repair drains, seams, scuppers and parapet flashing, and we replace whole systems when the membrane has reached the end of its life.

Yes. We schedule around tenants and business hours, keep the work area contained, and protect entrances and parking. For active leaks we can make a same-day temporary repair and return for the permanent fix.

We do not recommend it, and on many homes it is not permitted. Multiple layers hide rotted decking, add weight and shorten the life of the new roof. We tear off to the deck, repair what we find and install one clean layer with new underlayment.

Most flat-roof drain, seam and flashing repairs are a few hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on how much wet material has to come out. Shingle repairs depend on the size of the area and the decking underneath. We inspect first, then give a fixed written price. The inspection is free.

We document storm damage with dated photos, write up the scope of repair and provide what your adjuster needs. We do not act as a public adjuster, but our reports are used regularly in Bergen County claims.

Our office is in Englewood, about ten minutes east on Route 4. Inspections are usually scheduled within a day or two, and active leaks are prioritized.
