The project
This Teaneck home had a roof that had reached the end of its life: shingles curling and cracking across whole slopes, with sections of the deck underneath soft and rotted from years of water getting in. By the time our crew opened it up, parts of the plywood had to come off down to the bare rafters before anything new could go on.
Rather than patch over a deck that could not be trusted, we tore the roof off completely, replaced every damaged section of decking, and rebuilt the roof from the wood up.
What we did
- Complete tear-off of the old roof down to the deck, with every rotted or soft section of plywood replaced with new decking before anything else went on.
- New synthetic underlayment across the entire deck, with ice-and-water membrane along the eaves and in every valley.
- New GAF architectural shingles, laid with GAF starter strip along the eaves and rakes and finished with matching ridge cap.
- New flashing and pipe boots at every penetration, replaced rather than reused.
- Full cleanup: all debris hauled away, driveway and lawn swept clean with a magnetic sweep.
The result
The finished roof shows an even, tan architectural shingle field across every slope, with clean ridge lines and no trace of the damage that was there before. Because the deck itself was rebuilt rather than covered over, this roof is starting from a sound foundation, not hiding a problem underneath a new layer of shingles.
